2023 year’s Bodø BEAT was for innovations. At the end of the twentieth century the coalescence of cultures and sounds expanded the range of orchestral percussion instruments. This importation had immediate ramifications with composers wanting to use “new” sounds while percussionists were therefore under pressure to learn a variety of techniques to be able to produce these sounds. We asked, where are we now? As performers, composers, instrument makers and as audience we had a task to look ahead and evolve new directions.
